Must have heard about free health check-up or free vehicle pollution check, but for the first time, you can get the purity of your precious diamond checked for free!
Nelissen Marc, senior diamond grader, HRDAntwerp, has come to Ahmedabad from Belgium to check the purity of diamonds for free. "I will be in Ahmedabad for the next six days wherein I will check grades of diamond with three 'C's. I will also issue certificates on its clarity, colour and cut," Marc told DNA.
Marc is available at Tanishq showroom on CG Road till next Monday and for the next three days at the Satellite showroom. "I have already been to many cities in India, where I have checked thousands of diamonds. Out of them, so far, I have come across around 30 cases in which diamonds were not real and the customers had been cheated. I have not seen such problems in the US or in Europe," said Marc.
In many cases, the diamonds were found to be of inferior quality. "In few cases, we found that though the diamonds were real, their grades were inferior. In simple terms, the customer had paid more against what he got," he said.
The purity checks have earlier been organised in Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Indore and Kolkata. "Among all these cities, we have seen that the people of Indore have been cheated the most. In case of Ahmedabad, Saturday is the first day of our campaign so it is too early to say anything," said regional business manager, Tanishq, Neeraj Bhakare.
In India, people can easily get the purity of their gold jewellery checked but it is not easy in case of diamond jewellery.
"With this, people will come to know about the value of their precious diamond jewellery. We can also provide them with the facility of valuing the diamond and checking its carat. But for that we will have to remove the diamond from the jewellery which is not recommended. Checking the value and carat of the diamond is possible only if customer comes up with only diamond and not the jewellery," said brand manager, studded jewellery at Tanishq, Calvin John.
