Last Thursday’s murder of a woman in West Delhi was not for burglary as the victim’s daughter Sakshi Kapoor had claimed. It was more gruesome. Kiran Kapoor, 55, had returned home to find her daughter alone with her boyfriend and the two had killed her when she raised a hue and cry. Police say Sakshi was unhappy with her parents for objecting to her relationship with Sunny Batra, 21.

Sakshi and Sunny were arrested on Tuesday. Sunny is a second year student of an engineering college in Noida. His was the last number Sakshi had called from her cell. “Sakshi was very fond of entertaining boys and had almost 15 boyfriends,” a police officer said.

After the murder, the girl had told police that burglars had entered their ground floor house in the SBI colony and attacked her mother in the bedroom. But the police suspected her version. “Following sustained interrogation she broke down and confessed,” DCP (West Delhi) Sharad Aggarwal said.

The two had stabbed Kiran Kapoor, 55, with kitchen knives and beer bottles. The girl’s father, Ashok Kapoor, an accountant, and brother Saurabh were not at home at the time.

Aggarwal said, “Kiran had gone to attend some religious ceremony and was expected to return late. Being alone at home, Sakshi called her boyfriend over. However, the mother returned early and, finding the boy in her house, got very angry. The couple panicked and stabbed her,” he said.

“Sakshi then decided to project the incident as robbery-related. The two ransacked the house and then Sunny left with some valuables,” Aggarwal said.

Sakshi, who is a teacher by profession, told the police that she saw two men entering the house and hid in the living room while the men entered her mother’s room.

“According to Sakshi, when she went to her mother’s room after the burglars had left, she found her lying in a pool of blood.
“We have arrested the couple and recovered the valuables that went missing from the house,” Aggarwal said.
