Parliamentary Secretary of the state government Brahm Dev Kumawat was on Staurday beaten up by a group of Congress party supporters just before the first public meeting of Minister of State for Communication and IT, Sachin Pilot, sources said here today.
 
The incident took place at Vijay Nagar, 65 kms from here when Kumawat, the MLA from Masuda who is of the rank of a Minister of State and a close confidante of Pilot, accompanied him for a workers' meeting in the Assembly constituencies, sources said.
 
Kumawat won the Assembly elections as an Independent candidate, defeating Congress nominee Ram Chandra by a margin of 7,655 votes in August. Spotting him on the dias the Congress workers were irked by his presence and beat him up, telling him that he was not welcome to the function, the sources said.

Following the incident, Kumawat's supporters engaged in a scuffle with those who beat him up. Pilot, meanwhile, was escorted to safe place by party workers from where he left for Nasirabad to address another public meeting.
 
Police said that the situation was quickly brought under control and added that no complaint had been registered so far. Kumawat was taken to a hospital for minor injuries. He told reporters that he would lodge a complaint against Ram Chandra and those who attacked him.
