Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson's 4-year-old daughter is "extremely critical" and is on life support after she accidentally choked herself while playing with an electrical cord of a treadmill, police said.

Exodus was found by her seven-year-old brother in the exercise room of the family, who quickly alerted his mother. The child had reportedly strangled herself accidentally while playing with the cord, New York Post reported.

"It's just so tragic... she was playing in the room, apparently by herself, when she got tangled in the cord, which is attached to a treadmill. It was like a power cable in a loop shape. She was able to work it down to the point where she ended up catching her neck on it," Phoenix Police Sergent, Andy Hill said.

The police officer said Exodus' condition was "extremely critical," adding, "This is a possible death investigation."

The former boxer, who was in Las Vegas, flew to Phoenix to be with his daughter's side, who is on life support at St Joseph's hospital, the reports said.

Meanwhile, Tyson's representatives have released a statement saying, "The Tyson family would like to extend our deepest and most heartfelt thanks for all your prayers and support."
