Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), a constituent of the Third Front, Saturday made clear its intention to move towards BJP-led NDA, saying its chief K Chandrashekhar Rao will attend a rally to be organised by the coalition in Ludhiana tomorrow.

“We got an invitation from SAD chief and Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal to attend the rally to be organised tomorrow. Our party chief has accepted the invitation,” senior TRS leader Vinod Kumar said.

On whether Rao’s attendance of the NDA rally meant he had joined the alliance, Kumar said as of now no official decision has been taken in this regard. “An official decision will be taken by the Parliamentary Party meeting that will take place after results are announced on May 16,” the TRS MP said.

He, however, dropped enough hints about joining the NDA, saying TRS would ally with any party or formulation that supports the cause of separate Telangana state. BJP has already promised to carve out separate Telangana state from Andhra Pradesh if it comes to power.

Meanwhile, speculation was rife about whether Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar would attend the rally, with BJP leaders trying their best to convince everyone that the JD(U) was indeed with the NDA. “Yes, Nitish-ji’s coming here is important for the NDA. It will send a clear message to those trying to break some allies of the NDA,” a BJP minister in the Punjab government said.

The election rally is being seen as a show of strength by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to show that the NDA is intact in the run-up to Wednesday’s fifth and last phase of the 2009 general elections.

Top BJP leaders, including its prime ministerial candidate L.K. Advani, party president Rajnath Singh, chief ministers of BJP-ruled states including Gujarat’s Narendra Modi and top leaders of NDA allies are expected to attend the rally.
