A 75-year-old person, Thakorbhai Patel, a resident of Varnama village near Vadodara, was murdered after being kidnapped by three persons of another community three days ago. Police have arrested the murderers.

Apprehending communal violence in the village and nearby areas, police force has been deployed in Varnama.

According to police officials, Patel was a farmer who also lent money to his villagers. He had lent Rs25,000 to Farookh Kasam and his friend Firoz Ghanchi a couple of months ago. After paying instalments for some months, they stopped repayment to Patel. On May 4, Patel contacted both of them on their mobile and demanded the rest of the money. They asked him to come to the bus stand at 8 pm to receive the money.

Accordingly, Patel went to the bus stand where Farookh, Firoz and Saeed Basir kidnapped him.

When Patel's son, Gaurang, came to know about the incident, he lodged a complaint at the Varnama police station. When police officials started investigations, they got information that the kidnappers were hiding at Dabhoi. The police rushed to Dabhoi and nabbed the kidnappers. During primary interrogation, they told police that they had murdered Patel and threw his body in the ravines at Sindhrot. The Varnama police went to Sindhrot and recovered the body.

As the news of Patel's murder by the members of another community spread, tension developed at Varnama on Thursday night. Apprehending communal violence, senior police officials deployed police force at the village. Policemen were also posted at the houses of the accused and the victim.

The last rites of Thakorbhai Patel were performed under police security. Further investigations in the case are on.
