The annual display at the faculty of fine arts started on Monday, after the controversial paintings depicting a derogatory word were removed by the university officials.

The student who had done the controversial paintings was found absent at the display.

After the volcanic situation at the faculty regarding the derogatory paintings on Sunday, the annual display started at the faculty premises with precautionary measures on Monday.

Other than the jury members and the students, no ‘outsiders’ were allowed to enter the faculty premises. Not only that, photography of the paintings and the sculptures displayed at the faculty was totally prohibited.

On the other hand, after the university officials’ stringent action to remove the paintings from the display, the vice-chancellor has initiated the process to seek explanation from the student on why did he make the paintings under question. The vice-chancellor has already announced that if the student had done so with any malicious intention, then he would be suspended. Kunal Singh, the student who had displayed the derogatory paintings, was found “missing” in the faculty premises. But the jury members will assess the paintings and give their report to the dean of the faculty.

The dean of the faculty, Dr Deepak Karnal, said, “Currently, the jury is assessing the annual display, which is a part of annual exam at fine arts. So it is not advisable to comment on the issue. We will submit the report of the jury members regarding the derogatory paintings to the vice-chancellor.”
