Girl ends life as she was unable to bear youth's harassment

A 15-year-old school girl allegedly committed suicide by self-immolation in Karimnagar of Andhra Pradesh after a youth reportedly harassed her with love proposals, police said on Monday.

According to Karimnagar Town police, the seventh standard girl poured kerosene and set herself ablaze at her house on Sunday and succumbed to burn injuries on Monday morning.

One K Ramesh was harassing her making love proposals for the past six months following which the girl had informed her parents on the matter, but despite being told to mend his ways the youth continued to harass her, police said based on a complaint lodged by the victim's parents on Monday.

"The girl had outrightly rejected the youth's love proposal. But due to the continued harassment meted out by the youth on her, she might have got depressed and resorted to the extreme step," a police officer said.

The girl's parents also alleged that Ramesh unsuccessfully tried to abduct their daughter from their house two days ago.

Ramesh is a labourer and is already married. He is absconding after this incident, police said adding a case has been booked and further investigations were on.
