In a shocking incident, two youths who were relatives died after they threw acid on each other near Variyav village here late on Saturday night. A third youth, who was with them at the time of the incident, sustained severe burns.
According to police, Piyush Parekh (30) and Gaurang Parekh (25), both residents of Kosad, sustained severe burns after they threw acid on each other near Variyav village late on Saturday night. The third youth, Amit Vinzhiya, who is a friend of the two, sustained serious injuries. Piyush and Gaurang were taken to New Civil Hospital, where they were declared dead on arrival. Amit was admitted to SMIMER hospital, where his condition was stable. He was later booked by police.
In a statement given to police, Amit said that Gaurang called him and Piyush at 7 pm on Saturday, citing some important work. The three met at Chowk, from where they went to Parle Point on a motorcycle. After reaching the spot, Gaurang and Piyush talked for a while and then they decided to leave the place. Amit was driving the motorcycle while Piyush and Gaurang were riding pillion.
Instead of going back to Chowk, the three went towards Kosad and reached Variyav village. There Gaurang asked Amit to stop for a while. After they stopped, Gaurang forcefully made Piyush to drink acid, leading to a tussle between them during which Piyush poured the acid bottle on Gaurang. Amit sustained burns while trying to intervene. Terrified, he fled the spot and informed the duo’s families at Kosad.
The entire incident shocked the family members of Piyush and Gaurang. The duo were not only relatives but close to each other. Sources believe a love affair between Gaurang and Piyush’s wife Deepika led to the incident.
RH Hadiya, inspector of Rander police station, also said that Gaurang and Deepika were having an extra-marital affair. Gaurang wanted to marry Deepika, but it was possible only if Piyush somehow died.
“When the trio reached Variyav, Gaurang asked Piyush to open his mouth, saying he had something special for him. When Piyush opened his mouth, Gaurang poured acid in his mouth. But Piyush reacted immediately and threw the acid back on Gaurang. The duo began to fight on the spot, while Amit fled the scene. We have booked Amit because he was aware of Gaurang’s plan,” Hadiya added.
However Piyush’s family members denied the extra-marital affair theory. In a statement to police, Deepika said that she and Piyush had a love marriage and had two children, so it was impossible to have an extra-martial affair.
