Taking time off from her choc-a-bloc schedule, Anoushka Shankar is looking for a pad for herself in LA to make some more room for her “personal life”. “I’m impressed that you managed to find that out, how did you?” she tells After Hrs from New York.
“Though I’m still looking! I have a rare summer off from touring this year in order to make my next record, and I thought it would be nice to also make use of that time in my personal life,” says Anoushka.
Sources say that Anoushka was actually waiting for two important concerts with her father — the first at Washington DC’s legendary Kennedy Center that happened last Saturday and the other at the Virginia Arts festival in Norfolk on April 28 — before taking off for LA.
Though she preferred to keep mum about it, we have news that her long-time boyfriend Nishant Peralta will be with her too. “Having my own apartment is exotic to me the way that travelling to remote locations is exotic to others, and whenever I have the luxury of being in one place for a while I like to make the most of it,” she adds.
Anoushka also admitted that she recently toyed with the idea of marriage (with Nishant) before suddenly developing cold feet. “A few years ago I got really caught up with the idea of marriage. In India especially, all my friends of a similar age have been getting married so it’s hard to escape the idea of doing it yourself. But recently, I’ve come to terms more and more with the fact that I’m not the marrying kind, at least not now,” she says, adding, “I love my life, I love living and performing all over the planet and being able to make snap judgments about my life and work without having to consult anyone else. And that doesn’t work in a marriage!”
