Truck crushes young Bopal mother, driver flees

A brick-laden truck mowed a woman to death at the Sardar Patel ring road on Thursday morning. The victim identified as Surbhi Desai, 31, a resident of Bopal, was on her way to office when the mishap took place. The deceased was employed as a clerk at the registrar’s office at the high court.

Incidentally, she had resumed office only on Monday after maternity leave. According to the Sarkhej police, the accident happened on Thursday morning around 9.45am when Desai neared the Bopal crossroad at the Sardar Patel ring road, her two-wheeler, a Kinetic Honda, was hit by a truck laden with bricks and plying on the same side of the road.

The impact of the hit was so severe that the rear side of the vehicle was completely damaged. Eyewitnesses account that the victim’s head had come right under the wheels of the truck, resulting in her immediate death.

After the accident, a crowd gathered at the spot pelted stones at the truck driver and also torched the truck. However, the driver managed to flee the spot. Desai leaves behind her husband, Kunal,  who works at the QX company, her one-and-a-half-year-old son and a six-month-old daughter.
