BJP's prime ministerial candidate LK Advani's son Jayant is busy these days traversing the dusty by-lanes of villages in Gandhinagar constituency, urging voters to come out and vote in large numbers for his father. Jayant, who has taken charge of Advani Sr's campaign in Gandhinagar even as his father criss-crosses the country to put in efforts where they are required more, is visiting the rural areas of the constituency, which have traditionally voted in favour of the Congress.

With reports that the Leuva and Kadva Patel communities will support Congress candidate Suresh Patel, besides the entry of several independents in the fray and two BJP-dominated assembly segments being removed from the constituency, the BJP is apprehensive of a tough fight this time on a seat that has given them record victory margins.

On Wednesday, Jayant accompanied by BJP's Maharashtra spokesperson Shaina NC and a small team of BJP workers went to Borij 1,2 and 3, Indroda and Dhaula Kuan villages, where they addressed small gatherings and talked about unemployment, price rise and terrorism.

Jayant took on the UPA government on its failure to check price rise, provide security to the citizens and jobs to the unemployed.

“The Congress has failed to provide any relief to the people from the back-breaking price rise or terror attacks. If voted to power, the NDA will bring in a stricter law against terrorism. The BJP manifesto has made provisions for all sections of the society - farmers, women, senior citizens,” Jayant says.

Shaina too tries to strike a chord with the villagers and asks them in Gujarati to come out and vote in large numbers for Advani. “Gujarat has such a great leader in Narendra Modi who has done much to develop the state. Similarly, the NDA's prime ministerial candidate LK Advani will bring about development in the entire country. It's a matter of pride that the NDA's prime ministerial candidate is from your constituency. Please vote in large numbers for him.”

The villagers, however, might have other, more local issues, on their mind. Says Kokilaben from Borij village, “We are facing acute water shortage. Despite promises, the government has not done anything.” Other ladies around her nod in agreement.
In Dhaula Kuan, women say that there is no gutter line and this leads to water logging.

“There is no proper sanitation and no toilets for us,” says Hakuben Rehvar.
Though the BJP leaders are confident of victory, the villagers are a cryptic lot. Asked which party he supports, Manusinh Dabhi, a daily labourer in Borij village, says, “The BJP is likely to win. But the results will be known only on May 16,” he says with a smile.
