The national capital has always has clean politicians except for those accused in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. But in this election, many candidates are boasting of serious criminal charges, including one accused of rape.

Many criminal candidates are trying their luck in the capital, and most of them are from the BSP. Mohammad Yunus, a BSP candidate, has at least three cases of rape, robbery and rioting against him. An unfazed Yunus has said he is not guilty until the verdict is out.

Hazi Dilshad, a BSP candidate from North East Delhi, filed his nomination on Saturday from the Tihar jail. Police had arrested Dilshad, along with 12 of his supporters, for inciting violence and indulging in destruction of public property of Bhajanpura police station in north-east Delhi on Thursday.

Similarly, Deepak Bharadwaj, another BSP candidate from West Delhi, who is the richest candidate, in the country has several criminal cases pending against him.

Likewise, Ramesh Bhidhuri, a BJP candidate from South Delhi, has a case of defamation pending against him. Meera Kawaria, another BJP candidate from North West Delhi, has a case of defacement of property pending against her.

Ajay Makkan, Congress candidate from New Delhi seat, has cases under section IPC 341 (unlawful restrain) and IPC 147 (rioting) pending against him. He is also the only congress candidate from Delhi to have a case pending against him.
