Irrfan Khan might have to go on a month-long sabbatical to get back on his feet, literally. The actor, who was already nursing an injured leg with numerous torn ligaments, suffered another injury on the same leg a few days ago. This time, he says, it could be a hairline fracture. However, his worst fear is that this lay-off will force him to put his international project on hold.

“I had this international film with an Italian director. I don’t think I will be able to shoot for it for about a month. Though my foot is strapped, I am just rushing through the last schedule of Pan Singh Tomar. I know that the doctor will kill me for this, but I don’t have a choice,” says Irrfan.

Irrfan fell down again a couple of days ago while rehearsing for the role of the athlete-turned-dacoit that he is playing in Timangshu Dhulia’s Pan Singh Tomar. Ironically, Irrfan’s hurt the same spot as well.

It was the first accident earlier in the month that did the maximum damage for him. The scene required him to run with horses and also clear a hurdle that was placed in front of him. The horse cleared the hurdle and trotted off but Irrfan came tumbling after.

“I was shocked when I was asked to run alongside a horse but it is what we term in Bollywood language, the demand of the script,” he laughs while still limping on his left leg.

The biggest problem is that he is shooting in the remote Dholpur and there’s no good doctor or hospital nearby. “I got myself treated at Rourkela Medical hospital and also followed it up with a check-up in Delhi. I don’t think it’s a fracture but the area is very swollen and painkillers aren’t working. I just hope there’s no hairline fracture,” he says.

The film has always been a wee bit unlucky for Irrfan who narrowly escape an attack by dacoits while he was shooting in Dholpur.

The bunch of dacoits had rounded up some of the crew members and Vipin Sharma, who played Darsheel Safary’s father in Taare Zameen Par, was also among those attacked by the goons.
