A day after Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy made a statement on the possible fallout of formation of Telanagana state, the opposition parties approached the Election Commission (EC), demanding action against him.

The Grand Alliance, comprising TDP, TRS, CPI and CPM, lodged a complaint with the EC against YSR for making inflammatory comments to “provoke regional disturbances”. The BJP too urged EC to register a criminal case against YSR.

At a meeting in Nandyal of Kurnool district, YSR said if Chandrababu Naidu is voted back to power, he would yield to the pressure from the Telangana separatist party TRS and stall all the projects that would bring water to Rayalaseema and Andhra regions.
YSR also said the people of Rayalaseema living in Hyderabad would be treated like foreigners.

“It’s not fair on part of YSR to make such comments. As a chief minister, he should have behaved more responsibly. The Telangana issue is being handled by the Congress high command and YSR has no say in that,” Congress leader M Satyanarayana Rao said.

K Yerrannaidu, MP and senior TDP leader, said, “YSR is trying to trigger trouble within Andhra Pradesh by making such statements. He should be prosecuted.”
BJP, in fact, wanted EC to register a criminal case against YSR and bar him from conducting any further campaign in the state for the second phase.

The state is getting ready for second phase of polls in the second phase. There are about 145 Assembly and 20 Lok Sabha constituencies that would have polls on April 23.
