Jailed man rings wife, she gets cell

Call details of an unclaimed cellphone found in Sabarmati jail led to the arrest.

The Sabarmati police have arrested Geeta Goswami, wife of Dinesh Goswami, a murder accused currently lodged in Sabarmati jail, for receiving calls from her husband. She was arrested on the basis of the call details of a cellphone found unclaimed in Sabarmati jail on March 20. Vinod Verma, a friend of Dinesh, was also arrested for getting calls from Dinesh.

Inspector, Sabarmati police station, MB Joshi told DNA, “The two have been booked for violating the police commissioner’s circular.”  On March 20, Police sources said, the Sabarmati jail authorities found a cellphone on the jail premises. Probe revealed that Geeta Goswami, a resident of Silver City in Odhav, had received seven calls from the cellphone.

Similarly, Verma, a resident of Amraiwadi, had received 12 phone calls from the same number. Police later discovered that the cellphone belonged to Dinesh Goswami, lodged in jail on charges of murder and abduction.

Earlier, the jail authorities had announced that people receiving calls from jail inmates would be booked.
