Accusing the BJP of raking up the issue of black money to hide its own shortcomings at the time of elections, the Congress on Thursday asked the saffron party to provide all details it had about the money stashed in tax havens abroad by the Indians to the president.

BJP's prime ministerial candidate L K Advani, who had raised the issue, should submit an affidavit to the president giving all details he had about the money lying in Swiss banks, Congress leader and union minister Anand Sharma said.

"Whatever facts he (Advani) has, he should reveal. He should give an affidavit to the President giving all the details," Sharma told a press conference here.

He said his party wanted to know from where the BJP stalwart had arrived at the figure of black money stashed in Swiss banks.

Sharma said the BJP had raked up the issue at the time of elections to hide its own shortcomings and to divert people's attention from real issues confronting them.

"The BJP knows that Congress is on a strong wicket and will again come to power after the Lok Sabha elections.

"The party is raking up the issue to hide its own shortcomgings," he said.

Lashing out at Advani, Sharma said what prevented him from bringing back this money to India when he was the deputy prime minister.

"Or is Advani trying to say that the money has gone out after 2004 (when the Congress-led UPA came to power)," he said.

Pawan Kumar Bansal, Union Minister of State for Finance and Congress contestant from Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat, said it was intriguing how Advani had arrived at the figure of "Rs 70,000 lakh crore lying in Swiss banks".
