Congress candidate from Deoria parliamentary constituency Baleshwar Yadav and two others were detained by police on Thursday for allegedly beating up a BSP worker, police sources said.

Yadav, his son Bablu Yadav and their supporter Sandeep Singh were detained by the police this morning for allegedly beating up Kalamuddin, a BSP cadre, the sources said.

The incident occured last night at Matia Kutia village in Deoria constituency when BSP and Congress workers clashed with each other, they said.

Polling is underway in Deoria segment in the first phase of elections.

The injured BSP worker was admitted to district hospital, where his condition was stated to be stable, police said. An FIR was lodged against Yadav, his son and a supporter in this connection.
