The infighting in the state BJP came to the fore on Monday after a local BJP leader from Amraiwadi lodged a complaint that former BJP MLA Jitu Vaghela and his brother Jayesh Vaghela had assaulted some youth in the area.

Vaghelas, however, denied the incident. "We haven't done anything to the youth. They have been assaulted by some persons while they were crossing the bridge," Vaghelas said. Jitu Vaghela is facing six criminal charges in 2002 Gomtipur riot case.

The victim and complainant, Ankit Bhikha Bhai Shah (23), a resident of Ambaji Mata ni Pole in Gomtipur in his complaint stated that at 11.15 pm on Sunday he along with his friend Devraj Agarwal was returning to his home after attending a block-level party workers meet.

When they reached near Kataria showroom in Khokra, Jitu Vaghela and his brother Jayesh Vaghela, who were waiting for them, asked them to stop. He said Vaghelas asked them why they had gone to BJP office and threatened them of dire consequences if they didn't stop campaigning for Kirit Solanki, the BJP candidate from Ahmedabad (West).

Amraiwadi police have registered a case against Vaghelas.
