Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Monday said the big issue is not about his becoming prime minister or not and that there are far more 'fundamental issues' in the country.

"Rahul Gandhi is the prime minister or not is not an important issue as far as I am concerned...There are much more fundamental issues in India today than Rahul Gandhi being prime minister. I think that is irrelevant", he said in Nedumbassery near here.

He was reacting to questions relating on his sister Priyanka Vadra's comments that he is well-qualified to become prime minister.

Gandhi, who is on a one-day election tour of Kerala, said, "With regard to what I want to achieve in politics, I have said many times. I think there is fundamental problem with our political system.

"One of the big problem in our political system is lack of democracy in our party system and that is something I will fight very hard for," he said.

"What is happening to the political system of the country today is relevant," he said, adding, "Is it getting more democratic and are the poor people having more voice?"
