Dr Prabha Taviyad, Congress candidate, says even today, women have to walk 3 km to fetch drinking water.

I am a woman who is a gynaecologist. So I know the pain of the poor people of Dahod. Even today, women have to walk 3 km to fetch drinking water. There is no electricity in many areas. Because of lack of employment opportunities in the region, people have to migrate with their families in search of work. As a result, their children are deprived of education.

But, of late, people here have benefited from the Scheduled Tribes & Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act 2005, minimum employment guarantee scheme, and UPA government's funding for '108' emergency services. However, there is a lot to be done.

Tribal people are trusted voters of the Congress as they know Sonia Gandhi's vision for them. We have plans to connect each and every village on the hills with the main highway. I have seen that despite '108' service, people have to walk about 10 km to come to the main road with patients and pregnant women to get medical help.

There should be solar light system in hilly villages in the absence of electricity. For
water, we have done a technical survey and found that it is possible to supply water in hilly areas.

I belong to Dahod district. Not only that, my husband Dr. Kishor Taviyad has served in Dahod district panchayat for so many years.

I am associated with a charitable hospital. Just because I have set up my clinic in Godhra (which I did before Dahod became a district), my opponents are calling me an outsider. Till now, I have operated upon more than 15,000 women and they all know me and my services.

I have earned a clean reputation because of my work. I am confident that people are going to make me win this time.
