Double Oscar-winner AR Rahman has been contacted by Middlesex University wanting to felicitate the musician with an honorary doctorate. DNA has also learnt that Rahman is in talks with the university — situated in North of London — to start a programme that will enable students of his KM Music Conservatory to study at Middlesex.

A source reveals: “It is the tenth year celebration for the regional office of the university in India. They want to mark this moment by conferring an honorary degree to Rahman. He’ll be presented with the award at the university campus in July when it will host a graduation day ceremony.”

The insider adds: “Rahman, along with his conservatory officials, are using this opportunity to strike a deal with Middlesex. It’s for a Bachelors degree in music composition and performance programme for students. This Middlesex degree will be for three years and Rahman is trying to work out a plan through which his students can study at the London campus in their final year. This course is expected to start by January 2010.”

We sent an SMS to Rahman but he remained unavailable for comment.
