The Indian Institute of Managment, Ahmedabad is considering increasing fees for its flagship programme Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM), its chairman Vijaypat Singhania said. “With conditions similar to great depression on one hand and substantial increase in cost of running institutions and for its growth and diversification on the other hand, the Board of Governors of IIM-A is considering a revision in its fees for PGPM,” said Singhania at IIM-A convocation ceremony. “The Board will need to take into account the increased laibilities of the institute on account of pay commission recommendations and larger provisions required towards retirement funds,” Singhania said.

Last year under the IIM-A subsidy scheme, 21 students coming from poor backgroud got free education and 65 per cent got variying degrees of concession, he said.   “We also grant need-based scholarship so that students entering IIM-A do not have to forego education for lack of funds”, he said.

IIM-A will not go the government for meeting this deficit which is being financed from its corpus fund, he said.  The Board of Governors is likely revise fees in its meetings slated for today, sources in IIM-A said.
