A youth allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the Sabarmati river from the Sardar bridge on Friday morning. The fire brigade officials fished out the body from the river within a few hours of the incident and identified the victim as Chandrakant Gajula, 20, a student of LM College of Pharmacy, Navrangpura.

Gajula, a first year student pursuing his diploma in pharmacy hails from Parvat gam area in Surat. According to the Ellisbridge police, Gajula left his hostel on Friday morning for Surat. But for reasons unknown he committed suicide. Later, the fire brigade officials fished out his body from Sabarmati and also recovered a bag containing his identity card and other documents. The Ellisbridge police have registered a case of accidental death in this connection and the body was sent for post mortem. ASI Dalil Sinh Solanki, investigation officer for the case, said, "The boys family members have reached
Ahmedabad and have taken the body for performing the final rites." Solanki also said that based on the information provided by the college principal, Gajula was a brilliant student and did not have animosity with anyone in the college. "Gajula was sharp and was doing well at his studies. I am clueless as to why he chose to commit suicide," said Mukesh Gohil, principal of LM College of Pharmacy.

On Thursday, Gajula also had a talk with his family members and informed them that he would reach Surat the following day.
