The Editors Guild of India (EGI) has sought "strong action" from the Kerala government against those responsible in the attack on the office of Manorama News in Kozhikode.

Activists of CPI(M) allegedly attack the media office on Saturday night for carrying a news item on the resignation of a local CPI(M) leader. While condemning the attack, EGI said it was shocked to learn that even while journalists were lending a patient hearing to the leader of the group of CPM workers who had arrived at the Manorama news bureau, the group allegedly went on to smash computers and damaged parked vehicles on the channel's office premises.

An outdoor broadcasting van of the channel was also badly damaged by the hooligans during the attack.

"The Guild demands the Kerala Government and the police authorities should provide full protection to journalists and news organisation in the state. Strong action under the law should be taken against miscreants who had tried to browbeat the media by such blatant attacks," a release by EGI president Rajdeep Sardesai and secretary general K S Sachidananda Murthy said.
