The state government is planning to partner with Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation Limited (DMICDC) for faster development of Dholera Special Investment Region. MoUs for an investment of about Rs1,00,000 crore in the region have been signed and the SIR has also attracted internationally-known entrepreneur Sabeer Bhatia.

Highly-placed govt sources told DNA, “The state government has decided on a tie-up between the state government’s nodal agency, Gujarat Industrial Corridor Company (GICC), and DMICDC for developing the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) area of the state. The DMICDC has shown a keen interest in becoming a partner, and after much discussion the government has decided to formally invite DMICDC for partnership. The GICC and DMICDC will develop SIRs (including Dholera), industrial parks and the whole corridor.’’

Sources further said, “The state government has already inked an MoU with DMICDC for developing selected early bird projects - development of Central Spine Road for Dholera SIR, development of international airport in Dhandhuka taluka, first industrial park, regional and metro rail project. After a formal tie-up between the government and DMICDC, progress of these important projects will be speeded up."

“The government is also planning to develop Sanand as a new industrial node area which will attract major development in Dholera SIR and surrounding areas," the sources claimed.

They further said, “Due to the election code of conduct in force, the order for establishing GICC and its tie-up with DMICDC are on hold. Soon after the election, the GICC will be formed. The GICC will work as a project development and area/industrial development authority."

The state government has already approved the DMIC master plan of the state and the GCCI will work to execute that plan. Gujarat is probably the first state, among the states in which the DMIC project is going to come up, to appoint a nodal agency like GICC.

Project influence area of DMIC covers 4,36,486 sq km area which constitutes 13.8% of the geographical area of India. It covers 62% the area of Gujarat, which is the second highest after Delhi.
