The Third Front was a 'stillborn child' which neither has any vision nor any prospect in the coming general elections, Congress claimed on Friday.

Formally launching the party's campaign in Left Front ruled Tripura, AICC national spokesperson Aswini Kumar said "the Congress-led UPA will secure absolute majority in the general elections as the Third Front is a stillborn child and NDA has been rejected by the people."

He said despite the economic meltdown, the UPA government registered an average 8.6 per cent GDP which was a record.

He also said Pakistan was isolated on the issue of terrorism because India had adopted a strong diplomatic policy.

He criticised CPI (M) for withdrawing its support from the Central government on the issue of Indo-US nuclear deal.

"People should ask CPI(M) why it withdrew support from the UPA government on the Indo-US nuclear deal when it would benefit people in many ways", he said.

By 2025, India would generate 30,000 MW additional power which would be supplied to all homes in the country, he claimed.

Asked if the Congress would keep the possibilities open for support from the Left after the elections, Kumar said, "Prakash Karat recently told the media that they might support us, so we cannot close the possibilities."

To a question on seat-sharing in Bihar, the AICC spokesperson said, "We will not agree to what has been given to Congress."
