Fresh from the Oscars sweep, Freida Pinto talks about doing Woody Allen’s next film, her much-criticised gown and why she’s not settling down in New York.

What has the whole Oscars experience been like?
The journey and every moment was nothing short of magical. When you get something you least expect, it makes you feel on top of the world. In that sense, it really is more than just a dream come true.
The fact that the entire team was together, with the kids flown in from India for the Oscars, made the entire experience extremely fulfilling. Everyone at the Kodak Theatre was completely pro Slumdog Millionaire — that made the ambience so positive and encouraging. One of the most memorable moments with the Hollywood stars was when Brad and Angelina came up and congratulated the kids. Oh, you should’ve seen them — they were on another level altogether!

Some criticised the gown you were wearing. Was it your choice for the night?
I loved the John Galliano gown and I wouldn’t choose any other. I picked it up three weeks prior to the Oscars and when I saw it, I knew this was what I wanted to wear. It was a perfect and unique gown that aligned perfectly to my sense of style — comfortable and chic. It fit me like a glove and made me feel like a dream.

We hear you’ll be doing Woody Allen’s next film?
I am. I can’t talk about the role at present, but will let you know once everything is finalised. I would describe my meeting with Woody Allen as ‘different’. He’s a shy and reticent director but one with a beautiful vision. It will be a dream come true since I was a literature student and I studied Woody Allen’s plays back in college.

There are rumours that you’re planning to settle down in New York?
No. I’m looking forward to some world travel and looking for good work, no matter which country it comes from
