Students exposed to mgmt games

Crest ‘09, the annual cultural festival of the Chimanbhai Patel Institute of Management and Research (CPIMR), ended amid joy and enthusiasm on Friday. The entire event was handled by the students of the institute, under the guidance of their professors.

The aim of the event was to bring out the management skills and talents of the students as well as increase their efficiency in team-building. The event which had more than 900 participants focused on the practical aspects of management skills.

The festival introduced the students of the participating colleges to management games, including one on human resource management, which was a dramatics event testing the participants’ ability in solving day-to-day problems in all sectors. The Ad Mad event focused on advertising and marketing a product.

“The festival puts management theory into practice. It acts as a laboratory for teaching students and checks whether they have learnt their subjects and are able to apply theory in practice. The field is the acid test of theory,” said CPIMR director Vidhyut Joshi.

The students’ perspective and interpretation of management news were tested in the event Cover Story. In a game on the stock markets, the students showed their abilities in mock transactions and trading with a sum of Rs10 lakh.

The second day of the fest had events like Surprise Game, wherein the participants were given a subject and the rules on the spot. Its motive was to develop the participants’ ability to take instant decisions.

In Product Selling, a marketing game, the participants had to convince the judges and the audience to buy the product they were required to sell. College to Corporate was a dramatics game that dealt with current management affairs and aimed to help them enter the corporate world. The festival ended with the participating students showcasing their talents at the Talent Night.
