The child actor of Oscar-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail  faces the threat of being homeless.

Two weeks back the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) razed 200 shanties, including the house of the family of 10-year-old Ismail who plays the role of Salim in the Danny Boyle film, complying with a Bombay High Court order to demolish illegal enroachments at Garib Nagar, Bandra (East).

It was part of the civic body's drive against illegal enroachments that mushroomed near the water pipeline outside Bandra Terminus and Sahar pipeline at Andheri.

Azharuddin's family then took shelter in a makeshift tarpaulin home but this too may soon be razed.

The Bombay high court had asked the BMC to take action against illegal encroachments on water pipelines based on a petition filed by city-based NGO Janhit Manch.
