A teenaged school student, who was missing since Thursday, was found murdered on Friday with a shoe lace tied around his neck, police said.

The body of the victim, identified as Chander Kumar (16) bore multiple injuries and was found with strangulation marks on his neck at Rao Tula Ram Marg in RK Puram in south Delhi at around 8 am

Police said Kumar, who was studying in a Class XI in a government school in Sector 5 of RK Puram, was physically assaulted before he was strangled.

Some passers by called the police when they saw the body lying at Rao Tula Ram junction in RK Puram area.

His father Sita Ram Thakur, who is working as a cook, had approached the police on Thursday complaining that his son had not returned home after school.

Thakur told police that the boy went to the school and did not return. When he tried to contact him on his cell phone, he could not do so because it was switched off.

When Thakur enquired at the school, he came to know that the boy had attended classes and left in the afternoon after school got over. The boy was staying with his family in a Nepali slum in RK Puram area, police said.

"The body bore multiple injuries. He was hit by a blunt object on his head. It seems he was assaulted repeatedly before the murderer strangled him with a shoe lace," a senior police official said.

The shoes and mobile phone of the boy are missing, the police official said adding he was last seen with one of his classmates outside the school.

The official said investigators had spoken to a girl who told them they were coming out of the school together when the boy received a call on his cell phone.

He apparently told the girl that he was going to meet his friends and then left, the official said.

Police are verifying the call records of the deceased to get some clue in the case.

Preliminary investigations suggested it could be a case of personal enmity, the official said.

The teenager's body has been sent for post-mortem and a case registered. Further investigations are on.
