Engineering student held for sending obscene SMS to girls

An engineering student was arrested for allegedly sendinsg obscene SMSes to girls and police recovered many SIM cards from him here on Sunday.

Acting on a tip-off, a special operations group (SOG) of local police arrested Gaurav Mishra aka Sheru from the posh George Town police station area of the city this evening, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Allahabad) BP Tripathi said.

The SOG had zeroed in on Mishra, a resident at ADA colony in Naini locality, following a complaint by a girl in the neighbourhood.

Mishra, according to DIG, confessed that "making friends with girls" was his "hobby" and he used to derive pleasure by sending vulgar text messages to girls who spurned his advances.

He used to obtain cell phone numbers of his "targets" and send them obscene messages after loading his cell phone with a new SIM card, the DIG added.

The BTech student confessed that he "never sent SMS from one SIM more than once" and he used to destroy it after one "use". He had also used stolen phones procured through friends for sending SMS.

A case has been registered in this connection at the George Town police station.
