A doctor and a peon posted at the post-mortem department of the civil hospital here have been caught taking bribe and were arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). The ACB sleuths were tipped off by a Morbi resident.

The ACB laid a trap following a complaint filed by a shopkeeper Altaf Khalifa. Khalifa in his complaint had mentioned that Dr Hiren Gohil working at the post-mortem department and the peon had demanded Rs20,000 from him to issue post-mortem report of his brother, Ibrahim Khalifa.

Ibrahim, a Sabarmati jail inmate, died on January 1, 2009 in the jail and the post-mortem examination of his body was conducted at the civil hospital.

“After Gohil demanded the money, the complainant came to us and we gave him some marked currency notes,” an ACB official said.
On Thursday Khalifa lodged the complaint against the doctor and the peon and the sleuths laid a trap to nab them.
The ACB official arrested the doctor and his subordinate red-handed from the BJ Medical College canteen when they were accepting the bribe from Khalifa.
