Chidambaram stresses importance of Taluk offices

Highlighting the importance of Taluk offices, Union Home minister P Chidambaram on Friday, said taluk offices played a major role when people assessed the performance of a good or bad government.

Inaugurating the newly created Ponnamaravathi Taluk in Pudukottai district here, he said most of the certificates required by the people were provided by the Taluk office. "For most of their requirements regarding Government assistance under welfare scheme,they approached the Taluk office", he said.

He urged the officials of the Taluk office to attend to the grievances of the people with kindness.

He said sanction for two bridges in the district would be made shortly.

He was apprised about efforts to create Taluks at Ponnamaravathi,and Karambangudi which was inagurated two days back.

Creating two taluks in a single district was a mammoth effort, he said and thanked  chief minister M Karunanidhi for the same.

Tamil Nadu Revenue minister I Periasamy said 'harmonious' functioning of the DMK and Congress-led UPA Governments at the
state and Centre respectively  brought several good schemes to the state and helped in its overall development in the  last five years.
