With Modasa trapped into vicious circle of hepatitis B, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC)’s health officials have swung into action. As a precautionary measure, health inspectors have started inspecting doctor’s clinics across the city to check the spread of hepatitis A and hepatitis B.
“As of now, no hospital in Ahmedabad has registered any case of hepatitis B. But, we have started inspecting whether doctors are taking precautionary measures like using disposable syringes and sterilising them before use,” said medical officer at AMC, SP Kulkarni.
The health officials have not only started inspection of clinics to check in hepatitis B, but have also started taking samples of drinking water from across the city. The walled city area- which has age-old pipelines is prone to jaundice or hepatitis A, caused by contaminated water.
“Last week in Moti Haman ni pol in Kalupur area, we had a case of vomiting. Six members of a family were diagnosed with Hepatitis-A after they drank contaminated water. After that, we have not seen such case. Also, health inspectors have started taking samples of water supply to check if there is any contamination,” said chairman of health and solid waste management, Praful Rawal.
Rawal said that their focus is also on nabbing quakes who create health hazards for citizens. “Citizens are also requested to inform authorities if they come across such doctors,” added Rawal.
Health officers believe that in a changing season, it is advisable not to eat stale- roadside- open food. “When you see doctor, make sure to check if he uses disposable syringe and not a used one. Re-used syringe and sexual intercourse lead to hepatitis B infection,” added Kulkarni.
