Rs 5 crore for Tamil refugees

Finance minister K Anbazhagan urged the Union government on Tuesday to intervene and ensure immediate ceasefire in Sri Lanka.

The minister also announced an allocation of Rs5 crore towards Tamil refugees coming to India from Sri Lanka.

Anbazhagan made the announcement while presenting the budget in the assembly on Tuesday.

A senior officer of the Tamil Nadu Refugees Rehabilitation Commissioner’s office said: “At present, we have 73,000 plus refugees in 114 camps across the state. Refugees are still coming into Tamil Nadu via Mandapam.”
