The Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the supreme court to re-investigate some of the post-Godhra riots cases, wants to record the statement of former second police inspector of Naroda police station VS Gohil but there is no trace of Gohil.

According to sources, SIT officials are frantically looking for Gohil who has gone missing. Sources also hinted at the possibility of Gohil's arrest.

"Efforts are on to trace Gohil so that his statements can be recorded," sources said. Gohil has been accused of dereliction of duty during the post-Godhra riots of 2002. Earlier, in his deposition before the SIT, Gohil had claimed that he used whatever resources he had to quell the riots and he was not at fault.

"Gohil is facing the same charges which have been levelled against DySP KK Mysorewala," sources said and added that Mysorewala had delayed action against rioters.

Lawyer Mukul Sinha has demanded that both Gohil and Mysorewala should be arrested by the SIT.

As many as 11 people were killed in Naroda Gaam on February 28, 2002 in the communal riots that broke out after the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) called for a state-wide shutdown. In Naroda Patia, 83 people were killed on the same day.

Earlier, minister of state Mayaben Kodnani and VHP leader Jaydeep Patel had gone missing and applied for anticipatory bail after the SIT called them for questioning.
SIT has arrested DySP KG Erda for dereliction of duty and has sent them to judicial
custody. Erda has also applied for bail.
