Rahul Gandhi to address youth rally in Punjab

Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi will address a youth rally in ruling Akali Dal's stronghold of Faridkot in Punjab during March.

"His (Rahul) visit will give a big boost to the various initiatives which the Youth Congress has undertaken in Punjab. The rally will be held anytime between March 10 and 15," state Youth Congress president Ravneet Singh Bittu said on Sunday.

He said though the rally venue had not been finalised, but it was likely that it would be held in Faridkot. Two other venues Gurdaspur and Ludhiana had also been shortlisted, he said.

Traditionally, Faridkot and Gurdaspur have been weak areas for Congress. At present, Punjab's deputy chief minister and SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal represents the Faridkot Lok Sabha constituency while Gurdaspur has BJP's Vinod Khanna as LS member.

Bittu, who is the grandson of former Punjab chief minister late Beant Singh, said the Youth Congress was gearing up for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
