Rahul Gandhi, who many consider to be future prime minister, on Saturday said he wants to change politics by involving more youths in it. Speaking to reporters at the government circuit house in Surat, “I would like to bring a change in politics. The aim is to make it healthy, by involving more and more youths, who can play a major role in shaping policies,” he said while urging the young brigade to come forth and join politics.

Stressing on the need to form a system to encourage youths to enter politics, Gandhi said, “We have made changes in the way office bearers are appointed in youth Congress. Members are being enrolled and they will choose the office bearers.

The changes have yielded good results in Punjab and Uttarakhand, and we are now implementing them in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. We plan to extend this to the whole country in two years time.”

Gandhi apologised for the incident where some press photographers and cameramen were beaten up by special protection group (SPG) personnel accompanying him and assured appropriate action.

Refusing to comment on Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi’s comments about Congress’s dynastic politics, the Gandhi scion only said, “Narendra Modi has got lots of views about various things, but I would not like to comment on this.”

Lashing out at Gujarat government for failing to provide relief to diamond workers, Gandhi said, “The Gujarat government is responsible for basic needs of diamond workers. It is not fulfilling its responsibility, and is instead trying to pass the buck on the central government. When the government can dole out huge relief for Nano car project, it should also help the diamond workers,” he said.
