CM Narendra Modi continued his diatribe against Union home minister P Chidambaram for the second consecutive day on Thursday by taunting him, "Are you willing to give up votebank politics, Mr Chidambaram?" He also warned the Centre not to meddle in the state's affairs.

Earlier on Wednesday, Chidambaram had told mediapersons to ask him (Modi) whether he was in contact with Pakistan after the chief minister had spoken of involvement of local hands in the Mumbai terror attack. Modi had retorted by saying, "Does Chidambaram have friendship with Pakistan because of which fencing of the Gujarat border with Pakistan was not being done?"

The CM said Gujarat government had successfully uprooted terror because it had kept national interest in mind rather than votebank politics, unlike the Centre. "Every Pakistani knows me because Gujarat police expeditiously cracked the July 26 Ahmedabad serial bomb blasts case," he said.

Speaking at the inauguration of the new hi-tech Maninagar police station, Modi said the Centre had failed to crack any bomb blast case that had occurred across the country.

"How did the attackers know the way to the hotel and the layout of the premises. Why is the government not zeroing in on the local supporters?" he queried.

"People want to know from you why the perpetrators of terror attacks are never caught," Modi said referring to Chidambaram. He hit out at the Union  government saying it did not have adequate laws to fight terror attacks. "Even the law which has been put in place after 26/11 has many loopholes," said Modi referring to the amended Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. He again raked up the issue of anti-terrorism bill, Gujcoc, saying a state delegation had visited the Centre 25 times to seek expeditious presidential assent to the bill, but the Centre refused to budge on the issue.

Referring to discrimination against Gujarat by the Centre, Modi said the NDA government at the Centre had sanctioned Rs392 crore for upgrading coastal security in Gujarat. But after the UPA government came to power, the Centre coaxed other coastal states to seek funds, in a bid to deny funds to Gujarat.
