After pink panties, it’s pink condoms.

“Send pink condoms (buy them, or send pictures of condoms) to the pink chaddi campaigners,” read blogs that have come up as a counter to the Pink Chaddi Campaign.

Though the identity of the group is not known, it probably has links with the Sangh Parivar. Members of the pink condom campaign claim they are “more democratic and transparent” than the “pink chaddiwalas.”

“We are ordinary Hindus who don’t bark on television channels to defend our faith, but we definitely get hurt when some people bark against our faith... We don’t need self-righteous sickulars (so-called seculars) to reform us,” the anonymous campaigners have said on their website, thepinkcondomcampaign.blogspot.com, operating through social networking sites like Facebook and Orkut.

They condom campaigners claim they do not support the Sri Rama Sene (SRS) beating up women in Mangalore, but they back the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh for its social work and for fighting “sickulars”.

Opposition to the Pink Chaddi Campaign is because “they tried to implicate an assertive Hindu and RSS for the Mangalore pub attack incident. RSS and Hindus did not approve of the incident, but they were demonised.”

Their message to the Pink Chaddi brigade: “Go and enjoy in pubs, but do not forget to use the pink condom sent to you.”

Unlike the pink underwear campaign that ends on Valentine’s Day, the condom campaigners say it is a beginning. “Condoms are necessary to save yourself from Aids and to lead a progressive and secular life. The pink chaddiwalas claim to be pub-going, loose, and forward. A condom will help them maintain being that,” they say.

BJP spokesman Prakash Javdekar said the party did not want to align with both.
