Lambasting engineers of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Tuesday, chief minister BS Yeddyurappa said that farmers would be able to do a better job than qualified engineers of BBMP.

Expressing ire at the tardy implementation of infrastructure projects, the chief minister said, “Tenders should be called within a month of the approval of the project, but this takes four to five months; one does not need to be in the IAS or the KAS to monitor these works. Projects are getting delayed; it takes more than five to ten years to complete a project; once completed, the work is often shoddy.”

Describing the ineptitude of the Palike, Yeddyurappa said, “Ondubarige raste taar haakidemele matte ade raste ge taar hakotira adaro rastegalo haalagotave. Kattida kattadagalo khusisu bilotave. Idano maadalu engineering vodabeku? Nimmage naachage aagodilave? Katte kayothidira? (You put tar on the roads which have already been tarred, and yet the roads get spoilt. Structures which are built keep falling. Is engineering needed to do this? Aren’t you ashamed? Are you good-for-nothing donkeys?),” said the chief minister as he launched six transportation-related plans under ABIDe.
