Assembly may mull bill on pig protection

The coming state assembly session, during which a vote-of-account will be presented, will have seven non-government bills by individual MLAs before it.  Sources said these bills are Gujarat Black Magic Practice Abolition Bill; Gujarat Mother-Father and Dependent Alimony Bill; Gujarat Highway Accident Prevention Bill; Gujarat Pig Protection and Population Control Bill; Gujarat Obscene Advertisement, Photographs and Poster Prohibition Bill; Gujarat Non-degradable Waste Disposal Bill; and Gujarat Reservation for SC/ST on Vacant Posts Bill.

The sources said a few of these Bills can come up for discussion; however, as these were private Bills, there was little chance of their passage in the assembly.

Meanwhile, assembly Speaker Ashok Bhatt has organised a five-day international workshop, with legislative drafting astopic,  on February 8-12 in which lawmakers from 25 countries, MPs and members of various state assemblies will participate. 

The retired chief justice of Patna high court, JN Bhatt, who heads the state law commission, will give the keynote address on ‘21st century laws in context of social development’.

Supreme court’s retired Justice CK Thakkar will give a lecture on
‘Discipline in legislative drafting’ while Bimal Patel of GNLU will lecture on ‘Process of treaties in international laws and provisions of international laws’. Health minister Jaynarayan Vyas and leader of opposition in assembly Shaktisinh Gohil will also address the workshop.
