The first semester batch of degree engineering students from Gujarat Technological University received their results on Tuesday, within 28 days after completion of their examinations in January. Out of total 17,994 students in the first semester, 9,292 students have passed the semester, the pass percentage being 51.64%. A total 8, 702 students got backlogs in one to six subjects.

However, GTU officials gave all credits to the efficient system of planning, which they have put in place for smooth functioning of all examination-related works.

As declared earlier, the GTU results are given on basis of the new evolution pattern based on grades and course credits. According to the semester performance index (SPI), 36 students in the state have achieved SPI more than or equal to 9, which means that these students got overall marks ranging between 75 and 100 marks in respective subjects.

Out of the successful students, two first semester students of Electronics and Communication branch, Komal Shah from Charotar Institute of Technology at Changa and Ajit Prabhu from Vishvakarma Government Engineering College at Chandkheda have topped the examination with SPI of 9.68 and 9.48, respectively, while Saurav Suman, a student of Information Technology branch at Birla Vishvakarma Maha Vidhyalaya, VV Nagar has secured the third position with 9.38 SPI.

Declaring the results, the director of department of technical education, Manish Bharadwaj, said, "After the completion of the first semester exams and result process, we are now into the process of finalising courses for the third semester with the help of
professors from IITs and senior professors from other engineering colleges in the state who are involved in preparing the courses structure."

Talking to DNA, NN Bhuptani, registrar of GTU, said, "Students with backlogs in any number of subjects can appear in the remedial examination. However, with a maximum of three subjects only, he said. The remedial exams are likely to be scheduled within the next one and half months. Once the results of degree pharmacy are declared, we will declare the dates for the remedial exams."
