A college girl allegedly drove into four people, injuring them seriously, in another hit-and-run incident in the city on Monday morning. She then abandoned her car at Vijay crossroads before running to her home.

A source in the police said the incident took place at Pragatinagar near Vijay crossroads, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Naranpura police station. Aesha Shah (25) was returning home in her WagonR car when she hit three people, Ajmal Desai, Manish Gujjar and Leba Desai. A source said she then lost control of the vehicle and hit an elderly person standing near the crossroads.

After the incident, Shah abandoned her car and ran home. She then returned with her family to talk to the accident victims and settle the matter.

A source said Shah's family admitted the injured into hospital and also compensated them.

The Naranpura police arrived at the spot, but no complaint was lodged against Shah. All parties decided on a settlement before the Naranpura police, a source said.

In a similar incident a fortnight back, a teenaged boy was assaulted by a mob after the car he was driving hit a boy near Vadinath Chowk, which falls under the Ghatlodia police station. The teenager was driving in an inebriated state.

Though the driver was found drunk after hitting the boy, no compliant was filed and the police helped to settle the matter, a source said, adding "it has become a trend in the city among people driving recklessly to go in for settlement by paying money to the police and the victims' families."
