NDA's stand vindicated: Rajnath

The BJP on Saturday said chief election commissioner N Gopalaswami's letter recommending Election Commissioner Navin Chawla's removal "vindicates NDA's stand" on the issue.

"A memorandum signed by 200 Members of Parliament of the NDA was submitted to the CEC, earlier, regarding withdrawal of Chawla from the Commission and his announcement Friday vindicates our stand,"  BJP president Rajnath Singh said.

Asked if the government compels the CEC to withdraw the letter, the BJP president said, "There is no question of our either supporting or opposing the CEC's letter."

Refusing to elaborate, Singh said, "I have said what I had to say".
    
On Chawla's refusal to resign, he said, "Let me first go to Delhi. I will comment on it later."
