A former SBI Branch Manager has been sentenced to 14 years life imprisonment by a CBI court here for cheating the bank to the tune of several crores.

Pronouncing the verdict on Friday, Judge C V Karthikeyan, also imposed a fine of Rs 40 lakh on Dakshinamurthy, former Branch Manager of SBI, Arasaradi here.

Investigation revealed that his income was disproportionate to the assets he possessed. He was found to have opened savings bank accounts in fictitious names and siphoned off the bank's money. The CBI had registered separate case against him for cheating the bank to the tune of about Rs four crore when he was the Branch Manager.
