Union minister Renuka Choudhury on Friday, said she would ask the Election Commission to ensure that members of right wing group Sri Ram Sene, suspected to be behind the attack on a pub in Mangalore, are barred from contesting the elections.

"I would write a letter to the election commissioner asking him to bar Sri Ram Sene from contesting elections," Choudhury, minister for Women and Child Development, said on the sidelines of a seminar here.

Asked whether Sri Ram Sene was an active political entity, she said "had that not been the case why should they distance themselves from BJP so fast".

Choudhury, who had earlier termed the Mangalore incident as an attempt to "Talibanise India", said nobody has a right to moral policing in a country like India which is a democracy.
