Kevin Pietersen could well be Indian Premier League’s richest player. His worth could be more than that of Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Reports and sources say the former England captain has a whopping reserve prize of $ 1.3 million at the February 6 auctions.

The starting bid amount for Pietersen is the highest for any IPL cricketer. Dhoni was purchased for a record price of $ 1.5 million last year by Chennai Super Kings.

England’s centrally contracted players will be available for only 21 days of the IPL second season starting on April 10 and will be paid on a pro-rata basis. That could still represent a minimum of $ 86,000 per match for Pietersen who could cram six appearances into three weeks, a report in the ‘Daily Telegraph’ said.

Star all-rounder Andrew Flintoff has also been valued at $ 900,000 at the auction when the IPL futures of 21 England players will be decided. Both Pietersen and Flintoff have been courted by almost all of the eight IPL franchises and competition for their signature will be fierce despite their limited availability.

Vijay Mallya’s Bangalore Royal Challengers have already expressed interest in Pietersen. The base prices for the remaining England players is not likely to be valued higher than USD 250,000.

Meanwhile, the IPL announced a final list of 114 players for the Goa auction. Apart from Pietersen and Flintoff, players like Michael Clarke, Jean Paul Duminy Brad Haddin, Shaun Tait will be available for auction. Each franchisee, however, can spend only $ 2 million.

Interstingly, five Pakistan players also will be up for grabs. Asim Kamal, Yasir Hameed, Danish Kaneria, Mohd. Hafeez and Yasir Arafat are in the list which also has 27 Australians, 13 South Africans, 15 Sri Lankans and an assortment of players from across the West Indies, Bangladesh, New Zealand and Zimbabwe.
