A man has been arrested for allegedly "selling" his wife to a friend for Rs 2,500, police said here on Wednesday.

Pramod, who has been sent to police custody, was arrested on the complaint filed by his wife's parents.

They alleged that Pramod, who worked for a transport company, had "sold off" his wife of two years Krishna Devi to a colleague Amil for Rs 2,500.

Both Amil and Krishna were missing, police said, adding they have launched a search for them.

However, Pramod has denied the charge and claimed that his wife and Amil had illicit relations.
